Maatangi Devi

Maatangi Devi, the ninth of the ten Mahavidyas, commissioned by a client from Mumbai who wanted a form that really brought the presence of Maatangi Devi in it. Focusing from the beginning on proportions, the Devi's features, and overall look helped create a wearable deity, which, when paired with a rudraksh mala featuring green onyx and lotus caps, fully completed the piece.

The Design

The design was worked around having two clear sides, with Maatangi Devi on the front. The back was developed to elevate a part of the piece that is normally overlooked, which is why the Maatangi Yantra was added on the reverse. As Maatangi Devi is traditionally depicted in green with her parrot & veena, and emerald is associated with her, a ring of natural, untreated emeralds to finish the piece.

Finishing & Enamel

The finishing and enamel were handled to keep the detailing clean and consistent across the piece. The enamel was applied in very thin layers, especially on the back, to maintain a flat surface without any bulging and keep the yantra sharp. The colour selection of Maatangi Devi was chosen to perfectly match her green form, allowing the overall piece to feel balanced without overwhelming colours anywhere.

Finishing touch

To finish off the piece, the pendant was attached to a mala with alternating rudraksha and green onyx beads all linked in 925 Sterling Silver. Silver lotus caps were used, while the green onyx continued the Maatangi Devi colour, giving the entire set a cohesive and complete feeling.
