Kaal Bhairav
Kaal Bhairav was commissioned with a clear vision from our Nepali client, who wanted the pendant to reflect the masks used in Nepal’s traditional Bhairav Naach. Guided by that direction, we studied the bold features and commanding expression that give these ritual masks their divine authority. Translating this into a wearable form required precise control of relief depth, proportion, and surface detailing so the intensity remains sharp after casting and finishing — a culturally faithful interpretation, executed with perfect precision.
The Design
For this piece, the customer provided a reference image from his hometown — a regional depiction of Kaal Bhairav with its own distinct character, separate from more commonly seen representations. The brief was to honour that specific visual identity and translate it faithfully into a wearable form, retaining the intensity and iconographic detail of the reference while ensuring the design functioned at pendant scale.
Casting & Finishing
Once the design was approved, it was sent for printing via direct RPT — technology sourced from Germany that delivers higher resolution output, ensuring fine surface detail is fully retained before casting. From there, it was cast in 92.5 Sterling Silver using pressure casting, which forces molten silver into every cavity of the cast under controlled pressure, producing a denser and cleaner result than conventional methods. The cast piece then passes through the hands of our goldsmiths — craftsmen trained in gold work, whose eye for finish operates at a standard most silverwork never demands — before being finalised with White Rhodium plating for a bright, tarnish-resistant surface.
Final Enamel
Kaal Bhairav demanded incredibly complex enamel work, as every element of the piece carries its own colour — the deep black of the face, the red detailing across the features and crown, the white skull garland, blue and green accents through the ornaments, and gold tones across the decorative elements. Each colour is hand-applied individually in a precise sequence, as no two adjacent colours can be worked simultaneously — each must be fully set and cured before the next is introduced. A piece of this complexity requires a significant number of individual passes, with the craftsman working across the surface repeatedly to build up the finish layer by layer, resulting in a final perfect finish.
