Custom Blue Sapphire Ring
This custom sapphire ring was commissioned by a client specifically for astrological purposes, with a clear emphasis on keeping the design minimal. The brief focused on creating a ring that felt correct in form and proportion, while still carrying a strong visual presence.
The final design allowed the sapphire to remain the clear focal point without unnecessary embellishment, ensuring the ring remained understated yet well-resolved.
Design Creation
Keeping the overall form clean and minimal was the main focus. Along the body of the ring, a subtle inlay pattern was carved into the surface in the 3D design phase.
This inlay was intentionally designed to be filled with enamel at a later stage, adding controlled visual interest without compromising the ring’s minimal character. The detailing was kept precise and measured, ensuring it enhanced the design quietly rather than drawing focus away from the primary form.
Casting & Initial Enameling
Following the finalised design, the ring was cast in 92.5 Sterling Silver, translating the approved form into metal with careful attention to proportion and surface clarity. Before any polishing was carried out, the inlay was filled with ceramic enamel, with the shade of blue precisely matched to complement the colour of the sapphire.
Once filled, the piece was placed in an oven for an extended curing cycle, allowing the enamel to harden fully and evenly while bonding to the silver, preparing the ring for the final stages of polishing.
Stone Setting & Final Polishing
Once the enamel work was complete, the piece was carefully filed to remove all excess enamel, ensuring it sat completely flush with the surface. After this, the sapphire was set, completing all the structural elements of the ring.
With the stone secured, the ring was then taken through final polishing, refining the silver surfaces and bringing the piece to completion.
